E42: The Esposizione Universale Roma (EUR) was a planned World's Fair organised by Benito Mussolini for 1942 to celebrate 20 years of Italian fascism. However, it was cancelled in 1940 due to the Second World War. The EUR district in southern Rome was developed for the fair. The Arch of the Empire (Arco dell'Impero) was a massive, planned monumental arch intended to serve as the grand entrance, designed to reach 240 metres (790 feet) in height and up to 600 metres (1,968 feet) wide, rivaling the Eiffel Tower, but was never realised.

1936–37 E42 master plan. Architectural proposals: Marcello Piacentini, Giuseppe Pagano, Luigi Piccinato, Ettore Rossi, Luigi Vietti
